The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) on Wednesday has confirmed the tragic deaths of at least 10 individuals following a serious vehicle accident on the Lagos-Badagry expressway.
The incident, which occurred late on Tuesday night, also left three others injured.
According to Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, the collision happened around 11:00 PM when a Toyota Sienna, travelling at high speed, experienced brake failure and crashed into a stationary truck laden with granite stones near the Abule-Osun area of Amuwo Odofin Local Government.
A detailed report of the casualties indicates that the victims included three male adults, four females, two female children, and one male child.
Emergency responders, including officials from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), swiftly transported the injured to a nearby hospital for treatment.
“The unfortunate incident resulted in the loss of 10 lives, while three individuals were critically injured,” Oke-Osanyintolu stated.
“The truck, which was parked on the road, was obstructing about half of the carriageway, creating a hazardous situation for oncoming vehicles.”
The bodies of the deceased have been handed over to the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) for transfer to the mortuary as efforts continue to identify their families.
