Tragedy Strikes: 25-Year-Old man murdered in alleged political feud
The family of Mr. Dagama Asemota has been plunged into mourning following the tragic murder of their 25-year-old son, Osagie Asemota, in Benin City, Edo State.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the family expressed their grief and called on authorities to ensure justice is served.
Reports suggest that Osagie’s killing may be linked to a political dispute involving his cousin, Mr. Christian Asemota, who allegedly mobilized political thugs during the February 25, 2023, Presidential and National Assembly elections at Ogheghe community in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area.
Christian, who was a party agent for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) at Ward 9, was accused of orchestrating an attack that led to the death of Mrs. Elizabeth Arigo Owie at a polling station.
The March 30, 2023, attack that claimed Osagie’s life occurred at Ramat Park, Ikpoba Hill, Benin City. Gunmen, suspected to be affiliated with an opposition political party, ambushed Christian’s car, opening fire and fatally wounding Osagie, who was in the vehicle.
A family source revealed that since the attack, Christian Asemota has received numerous threats, forcing him into hiding. His current whereabouts remain unknown.
Also, Mr. Dagama Asemota who’s the uncle and the father of Osagie (deceased) said that Christian denied the allegations of his involvement in the incident at Ogheghe Polling center,
He is only being accused by members of the opposition political party (APC) because of his political affiliation and because he drove into the polling center almost at the same time the political thugs came to the polling center to disrupt the election process.
Mr. Dagama added that his nephew, Christian is a God fearing and an easy going person without any criminal record, and he cannot be involved in such a dastard act because of his upbringing.
Meanwhile, the Edo State Police Command has vowed to leave no stone unturned in apprehending the perpetrators and ensuring justice for the Asemota family.
The incident has sparked outrage and raised concerns about the rising tide of political violence in the state.
