Traditional ruler urges Delta govt to rehabilitate Idumuogo Health Centre
Obi Samuel Otiegede 11, the Traditional Ruler of Idumuogo, Aniocha North, Delta, has called on the state government to rehabilitate Idumuogo Health Centre.
The traditional ruler made the call on Monday at the beginning of a two-day free medical outreach in Idumuogo.
It was reported that the outreach was organised by OMIWA Foundation in conjunction with Anioma Medical Professionals Forum.
He said that the health centre required rehabilitation and employment of more staff to ensure effective healthcare service delivery.
The traditional ruler said that the residents of the community found it difficult accessing healthcare services because of the state of the health centre.
“There is need for the centre to be rehabilitated, more staff should be deployed and there should be doctors attending to the people,” he said.
Speaking at the event, Mr Emeka Nwaobi, a Lawmaker, representing Aniocha North in the state House of Assembly, said he would present the traditional ruler’s demand before the state government.
He urged the community leaders to forward a letter concerning the state of the health facility to the state commissioner for health.
“You need to channel your request through the commissioner for health; send me a copy of the letter; and I shall take it up from there,” he said.
Nwaobi commended the organisers of the medical outreach programme for their support to the health needs of people.
Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Dr Alexander Awunor, Founder, Anioma Medical Professionals Forum, said the programme was part of the Foundation’s way of touching the people’s lives.
“Do not fail to always take advantage of this kind of opportunities. We must make use of every available opportunity to take care of our health,” he said.
“We spent money to procure the materials we are using and we need people to make use of the opportunity,”Awunor said.
Also speaking, Mr Tohan Okenyi, Facilitator, OMIWA Foundation, said the idea behind the project was to support the vulnerable in the society.
“We hope to take this project to other communities in the area. It is clear that people need this support,” he said.
