Traders jailed 3 years for buying stolen motor parts

An Area Court sitting in Jos on Friday sentenced two traders, Imirana Samaila, 25 and Mohammed Sani, 25, to three years in prison for buying stolen motor spare parts.

The Magistrate, Mr. Thomas Ajitsewho sentenced the defendants after they pleaded guilty to a two-charge of conspiracy and buying stolen goods.

Ajitse who, however, gave them options to pay N100,000 each as fine.

Ajitse said the judgment would serve as deterrent to those who would want to indulge in such criminal act.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp Ahmed Labaran, told the court that the case was reported on Jan. 26 at the Angwan Rogo Police Station by some police officers.

Labaran said that the defendants received one gear box, two block engines and two rims from one Ibrahim Sarajo of Zaria Road.

He said the properties were suspected to be stolen from one Bashir Sani of Angwan Rimi, Jos.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened the Penal Code of Plateau Law.
