Trader jailed 1 year for theft, resisting arrest
A Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Jos on Wednesday sentenced an 18-year-old trader, Ahmad Bashir, to one year in prison for stealing and resisting arrest.
The judge, Tapmwa Gotep, who sentenced Bashir after he pleaded guilty to the offence, however, gave him an option of fine.
Gotep said a fine of N5,000 on the first-count charge and another N5,000 on the second count charge.
Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Emmanuel Awe, told the court that the case was reported on June 26, by the Department of State Security.
Emmanuel said that the convict had a long dagger he used in collecting cell phones from victims.
“When he was arrested, he jumped out of the security van, but was caught again,” said Awe.
The prosecutor said that the offence was punishable under sections 57 and 134 of the Plateau penal code law.
