Trader docked for attempting to steal neighbour’s goat

A 21-year-old trader, Abubakar Aliyu, was on Monday docked in a Dei-Dei Grade I Area Court, Shagari Quarters, Abuja, for allegedly attempting to stealing his neighbours goat, worth N25,000.

The Police charged Aliyu, who resides in Panteka, Abuja, with theft.

The Prosecution Counsel, Chinedu Ogada, told the court that Mr Chimieze Nwokeogu of Livestock market, Dei-dei, Abuja, reported the matter at the Dei-dei Police Station on March. 28, at about 9:15 a.m.

Ogada alleged that the defendant went to the complainant’s compound, situated at Apea way Dei-dei Abuja, and tried to steal the complainant’s goat, valued at N25,000.

The prosecution counsel, however, told the court that during police investigation, the defendant denied the allegation levelled against him, however found the goat at his possession.

According to him, the offence contravenes  the provisions of Section 288 of the Penal Code Law.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The presiding judge, Sulyman Ola, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum N100,000, with one surety in like sum.

Ola ordered that the surety must reside within the Jurisdiction of the court and his or she address verified by the court officer.

The judge adjourned the matter until June 28, for hearing.
