TRACE sensitizes motorists on safety

The Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), says it has embarked on sensitization programme to educate motorists at motor parks on safety measures to adopt ahead of the Yuletide.

Mrs. Temitope Oseni, the Owode-Ijako Unit Commander of TRACE, said this in an interview with the Newsmen on Wednesday in Ota, Ogun.

Oseni noted that the sensitization programme had become necessary, especially during the Yuletide to educate motorists on the importance of safety.

She said the command had gone to Owode, Ijako, Iyana Ilogbo, Iron Motor parks, among others, to sensitize motorists to desist from indiscriminate parking on highways.

The unit commander said indiscriminate parking was one of the factors responsible for crashes because incoming vehicles or articulated trucks could easily ram into them.

“We are appealing to motorists to refrain from indiscriminate parking to avoid unnecessary loss of lives during, before and during the Yuletide.

“In addition, indiscriminate parking sometimes contributes to gridlocks on the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway,” she said.

Oseni warned motorists against speeding and drunk driving during yuletide to minimize crashes.

“They should not drink while driving because drinking affects their sense of reasoning negatively, thus leading to accidents,” she said.

Oseni stressed that dangerous driving and driving against traffic should be totally discouraged.

The unit commander implored motorists to slow down, especially at market areas where people would be crossing to purchase goods.

Oseni also said TRACE personnel would be deployed to all accident prone areas and work 24 hours daily during to yuletide to check excesses of drivers.
