The Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) have expressed worry over the incessant fall of articulated trucks in Sango-Ota and its environs.
The Area Commander of TRACE, Mr Adekunle Ajibade, expressed concerns in an interview with the Newsmen on Thursday in Ota.
Reacting to the fall of a truck that blocked the road at Iju area on Ota-Idi-Iroko road, on Thursday morning, Ajibade said that similar incidents also occurred on Tuesday and Wednesday at Owode-Ijako axis, after the Sango-Ota bridge.
The TRACE Area Commander, who said that no life was lost in any of the three incidents, however implored drivers of articulated vehicles to exercise caution on the roads to avoid unnecessary damage of goods or loss of lives.
Ajibade said that the fall of articulated vehicles often created serious traffic gridlocks and endangered the lives of other road users on the highway
He attributed the causes of such incidents to reckless driving on part of the drivers.
“We are appealing to articulated truck drivers to always exercise patience and desist from dangerously driving to keep our highways safe for the public
“In addition, they should install speed limit device to reduce fatality rate when crashes occur,” the commander said.
Ajibade further advised the drivers to desist from taking substances like drugs that could affect their vision and sense of judgment when behind the wheels.
He advised companies in Sango-Ota and its environs to always employ competent drivers and ensure continuous retraining of their drivers in order to maintain sanity on the highways.
