Total Nigeria audits 4889 trucks in 4 years

Total Nigeria Plc said it has audited a total of 4,889 trucks between 2017 and 2020, stressing that the initiative is to improve roads safety for truck drivers.

At the media parley on truck drivers’ Initiative held virtually on Thursday,  Total Country Communication Manager, Dr Charles Ebereonwu said, truck drivers’ Initiative is meant to improve road safety in Nigeria with continuous training and audits.

He explained that the company has conducted 2,181 truck  driver trainings, 2,740 truck audits at its training facility in Ibadan, Oyo State between 2017 and 2020.

Ebereonwu, who moderated the session expressed optimism that the initiative would progress to a level where truck drivers en masse are trained to become professional drivers.

He noted that this is expected to eliminate road hazards associated with collapse of trucks with petroleum products.

He said the company’s effort had resulted in zero fatalities.

The Executive General Manager, Total Country Services, Bunmi Popoola-Mordi, noted that one of the areas that the company has contributed enormously to the country’s economy is in the area of road safety.

The GM, HSEQ, Mr. Muhyideen Nurudeen maintained that while the company was in the business of making profit, it was more interested in saving lives; making the roads as safe as possible and making sure drivers return safely to their families and loved ones at the end of each business day.

The company explained that its stakeholders including Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria (MOMAN) and National Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) are involved in the initiative.
