Tokyo 2020: Nigeria’s wrestler Adekuoroye loses by fall after 8-2 lead
Nigeria medal hopeful in wrestling Odunayo Adekuoroye has lost her 57kg weight category fight in the ongoing Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Adekuoroye was defeated by fall by Anastasia Nichita of Moldova in a swift turn of events.
She was leading 8-2 before Nichita won through a pin in the round of 16.
If Nichita reaches the final, Adekuoroye may have an opportunity to vie for a bronze medal through the repechage.
In wrestling, a pin (or fall) is when you put your opponent on his/her back with any part of both shoulders or both shoulder blades of your opponent in contact with the mat for two seconds. When you pin your opponent, the match is over and you are the winner.
Also, Nigeria’s wrestler Ekerekeme Agiomor failed to progress to the semis.
