TInubu’s Administration must prove govt in Nigeria is not a scam

Key among the voices coming from political office holders on the heels of the Eid-el-Kabir  festival has been the demand for peace, harmony and support. The call for support has been channeled to the citizenry to back the nascent President Bola Tinubu led  administration, a demand which political office holders have harped upon as a significant determinant for the government of the day to surmount the clusters of challenges bewildering the Country.

For instance, lawmakers in the Country have called for support towards the Tinubu’s administration, amidst the premising challenges. In their respective messages, lawmakers took turn to urge Nigerians to be patient and unite solidly behind the present government to surmount the present challenges. For instance, the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, who specifically greeted Nigerians and President Tinubu, pleaded with Nigerians to be patient with the new administration and give it their full support to take Nigeria out of the woods.

“I salute the resilience and patriotism of Nigerians in the face of the current challenges facing our nation. We should all see it as part of the process of nation-building,” he said.  ”In just a few weeks since his inauguration, President Tinubu has taken some bold steps which have been globally acclaimed as being in the right direction. Even though the measures bring with them some inconveniences, I earnestly appeal to fellow Nigerians to look at the larger picture of the expected outcomes, be patient with the new government and give it their full support to take Nigeria out of the woods,” he added. On his part, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele (APC, Ekiti Central) submitted  that “All the President needs from all Nigerians as the father of the nation, is a coalition of efforts with him for the realisation of his promise to bring prosperity to the doorstep of every Nigerian, which will impact our lives positively, irrespective of religious leanings,” he said.

On his own part, President Tinubu in his Eid-el-Kabir message, had said partly: “At the moment, our country is going through some challenges, especially with our struggling economy and simmering security challenges. While I acknowledge all of these, I want to assure you that they are not insurmountable. I am working day and night with my team, fleshing out solutions. We have started with the decisions taken so far, to reform our economy and remove all impediments to growth.” He also later called for collaborative efforts and sacrifices on the part of the citizens. The president in a support call mentioned “May our sacrifices turn to prosperity. We have to make the sacrifices, and that is clear, we have to. But Allah will not give you a burden that you cannot carry. He is there for us. We must have faith in the country, have faith in ourselves, believing that as citizens of this country, we must join hands to build the nation. No religious identity, no tribal identity, let us live with one another in joy and prosperity. Nigeria will see peace, stability and God will grant peace to those of us at the war front.”

It is no doubt that for any government to succeed, the support of the people it governs is inevitable. The case of the nascent TInubu led administration would not be an exception. However, in as much as calls rest on Nigerians as a clarion demand to usher their support for the government, it is also important for the government to act as most reasonable and responsible as possible. Hence, while the citizens have obligations to fulfill, part of which will speak in their sacrifices and support for the government, the later also must not lag in its duties and responsibilities to fix the deficiencies which have caused Nigerians the loss of confidence in government, owing to failure of successive administrations to live up to expectations and keep promises. The Tinubu led government must correct the perspective and prove it wrong “that government in Nigeria will always be a scam as widely believed presently”.
