Tinubu focused on next generation not next election — APC National  Secretary

…As APC budgets N30 billion for 2025

The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Basiru, has stated that President Bola Tinubu is more concerned about the next generation than the next general election.

Speaking during a national television programme on Thursday evening, Senator Basiru emphasised that President Tinubu’s focus on long-term reforms, rather than short-term political gains, demonstrates his commitment to Nigeria’s future.

“If the President were solely focused on the next election, he would not be taking the bold and crucial decisions that should have been made decades ago,” he said.

Basiru further noted that Tinubu’s policies are beginning to yield results, urging Nigerians to support and encourage the President to sustain the momentum of his administration’s reforms.

“We believe that the President’s policies are starting to deliver positive outcomes. We must encourage him to do more. He is not someone who prioritises political ambition over national interest—his real concern is the next generation,” he asserted.

Speaking on the vote of confidence passed on President Tinubu during the APC National Caucus meeting on Wednesday, Basiru said the decision was based on the tangible progress of Tinubu’s reform agenda.

“The confidence vote reflects the belief among our party stakeholders that we are beginning to see the results of the reform agenda. There is no doubt that when these reforms were introduced, the initial phase was challenging.

“At first, many believed the positive impact would take much longer, but we are now seeing the gestation period shorten, and results are emerging.

“When a leader is performing well, he should be encouraged. The vote of confidence is also meant to reinforce the President’s commitment to fully realising the Renewed Hope Agenda,” Basiru added.

Senator Basiru revealed that under the leadership of APC National Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje, the party has budgeted N30 billion to manage its affairs in 2025.

Despite the short notice for the APC caucus meeting, Basiru disclosed that over 85% of key stakeholders attended the session, reflecting strong party unity.

He also clarified that former President Muhammadu Buhari’s absence was due to the late notice of the meeting rather than any internal discord.

“Our party remains financially strong. This is why the main focus of our National Executive Council (NEC) meeting was to review and approve the audited accounts for 2022 and 2023, as well as to ratify the 2024 budget and approve the N30 billion budget for 2025.

“There was no dissension regarding these financial matters, as evidenced by the high level of attendance at both the caucus and NEC meetings, which exceeded 85%,” he stated.

With these developments, the APC leadership maintains that President Tinubu’s administration is on the right track, as his bold economic and political reforms continue to take shape.
