Tinubu enacts law boosting judicial officers’ salaries by 300%

President Bola Tinubu has officially enacted a bill that significantly raises the salaries and allowances of judicial officers in Nigeria by 300 percent. This new legislation, which was approved by the Senate in June, will result in the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) receiving an annual salary of N64 million.

On Tuesday, August 13, the Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters, Basheer Lado, highlighted that this action demonstrates Tinubu’s “steadfast commitment” to enhancing the welfare of Nigeria’s workforce.

“This remarkable initiative highlights the President’s firm focus on improving the conditions of Nigerian workers. It mirrors his recent decision to pause a Federal Executive Council meeting to approve the National Minimum Wage Bill of N70,000.

“This move showcases President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s dedication to the welfare of the nation’s workforce by approving the revised Salaries and Allowances for Judicial Office Holders,” Lado stated.

He further emphasised that this decision underscores the President’s dedication to ensuring that all salary earners, particularly those in crucial roles, receive fair recognition and compensation. By enhancing the financial status of judicial officers, President Tinubu aims to bolster the integrity of the justice system and set a new benchmark for leadership that values the contributions of all Nigerian workers.

Lado also praised Senate President Godswill Akpabio and House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas for their “patriotic commitment” to improving the lives of Nigerians.

“The judiciary stands as a beacon of hope for the common man, and it is anticipated that this adjustment will ensure justice is accessible to all, regardless of their social standing,” he concluded.
