In his 63rd Independence Anniversary broadcast, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu emphasised the importance of making monetary policy accessible to all, rather than just benefiting the wealthy.
He expressed confidence that this goal could be achieved through the ongoing efforts to revamp the Central Bank of Nigeria.
President Tinubu also revealed that the findings of the investigation into past shortcomings at the Central Bank and measures to prevent future occurrences would be disclosed in the near future.
During his 15-minute address to the nation, Tinubu reassured Nigerians that despite the difficult economic circumstances, the country is making progress.
Tinubu assured that his government was doing all to ease the burden imposed by fuel subsidy removal on Nigerians.
“I pledged a thorough house cleaning of the den of malfeasance the CBN had become. That housecleaning is well underway.
“A new leadership for the Central Bank has been constituted. Also, my special investigator will soon present his findings on past lapses and how to prevent similar reoccurrences.
“Henceforth, monetary policy shall be for the benefit of all and not the exclusive province of the powerful and wealthy,” he stated.
It was gathered that in July, Tinubu appointed Jim Obazee, a special investigator, to lead a probe of CBN.
