President Bola Tinubu has endorsed the establishment of a federal university in Southern Kaduna, a decision welcomed by local leaders and stakeholders.
The announcement was made in a statement issued by Stanley Nkwocha, the spokesperson for Vice-President Kashim Shettima, on Monday.
Nkwocha revealed that Shettima conveyed this information during a condolence visit to Bishop Matthew Kukah of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, following the death of Yohanna Kukah, the Agwom Akulu of Ikulu chiefdom in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
During the visit, Shettima also revealed that discussions are underway for the establishment of a federal medical centre in Kafanchan.
He added, “With Senator Katung and members of the House of Representatives, we have reached out to President Bola Tinubu, and he has consented to the establishment of a federal university in Southern Kaduna.”
The Vice-President emphasised that President Tinubu is committed to the development of Southern Kaduna, citing the appointment of Christopher Musa as Chief of Defence Staff as an example of the administration’s focus on the region’s security needs.
“Be assured that President Tinubu has the people of Kaduna and Southern Kaduna at heart,” Shettima said.
Shettima also commended Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani for his inclusive approach to governance, noting that governance should unite all components of society to foster a sense of belonging.
He reassured that the federal government would collaborate with the state government to ensure development reaches Southern Kaduna, with a particular focus on improving road infrastructure.
