The Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan has ordered the remand of three students on Tuesday who are accused of causing the death of a fellow student.

The three students—Shodimu Halima, 18; Agbedun Zainab, 23; and Olaleye Oladunni, 23, from Iseyin College of Health Science and Technology—are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and murder.

Magistrate Mr. M. Mudashiru, citing a lack of jurisdiction, did not take the pleas of the three students. Instead, he ordered their remand at the Agodi Correctional Centre in Ibadan as the case proceeds.

Magistrate Mudashiru stated that the remand was pending the issuance of legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).

He adjourned the case until December 30 for mention.

Prosecuting counsel Insp. Femi Oluwadare informed the court that the defendants are accused of conspiring with others not yet apprehended to commit the alleged offence.

According to the prosecutor, the defendants allegedly caused the death of one Eniola Ismail, 16, by beating her with fists on July 29 at about 4.00 p.m. at Iseyi, Oyo State.

Insp. Femi Oluwadare stated that the defendants allegedly fought with the deceased at school on July 29.

After the altercation, the deceased went home, complained of body pains, and subsequently died later.

Oluwadare said the offences were contrary to Section 316 and punishable under Sections 319 and 324 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State 2000.
