Three friends arraigned in court over attempted bank robbery

Three friends  on Wednesday appeared in a Magistrates’ Court in Ota, Ogun, for attempting to steal N100,000 from Zenith Bank.

The police charged Oseni Iliasu, 21, Francis Alechnue, 30, and Elijah Ojole, 19, with attempt to steal, conspiracy and breach of peace.

The prosecution counsel, Insp E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendants, committed the offence at  the Zenith Bank Plc, Joju Branch, Ogun.

Adaraloye said the defendants also conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace when they presented a cheque, knowing full well there was no money in the account.

He said that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 249(d), 509 and 516 of the Criminal Code,Vol.1,Laws of Ogun,2006.

They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Magistrate A.O. Adeyemi admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N20,000 each with one surety each in like sum.

Adeyemi ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed.

The magistrate adjourned untill July 15 for definite hearing.
