Three arraigned for allegedly stealing N50m transformer in Lagos

On Tuesday, three men faced charges in the Ikorodu Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, accused of stealing an electricity transformer valued at N50 million.
The accused, Kehinde Akinkugbe, Tope Salisu, and Isiaka Amusa, had their addresses not disclosed, and they are charged with conspiracy, theft, and malicious damage.
All three defendants entered pleas of not guilty to the allegations against them.
According to the Prosecutor, ASP Aminu Isaac, the accused committed the crimes around 2:30 am on August 22 at Ajeri Street, Ijede, Ikorodu, Lagos.
Isaac explained that the accused caused damage to a transformer owned by the Federal Government.
The prosecutor also noted that the accused were caught by local residents, who subsequently reported the incident to the police.
These actions are said to violate Sections 411, 287, and 339 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Chief Magistrate Mrs. A.B. Olagbegi-Adelabu granted bail to each of the defendants, setting the amount at N1 million per person, with the condition of two sureties for each.e of the required sureties must own a property and provide proof of having paid taxes to the Lagos State Government for the past three years.
The case has been scheduled for further mention on October 10.
