Threat to life on grounds of religious differences
A Yoruba man, native of Owu village in Abeokuta North LGA of Ogun state has recently raised an alarm over an extraordinarily strong threat to the lives of himself and spouse who hail from Ubulu-uku village in the Aniocha South LGA of Delta State.
Trouble ensued after years of peaceful coexistence when he was invited by his in-laws and informed that having married the first daughter of the traditional custodian of Ubulu-uku village deity-Nneoma- the couple mandatorily must be engaged in worshipping and serving at the shrine (Ogwa) according to cultural beliefs.
Being devout Christians and strong believers of the tenets of the Christian faith, he, and his wife outrightly rejected the offer and denounced all connections with idol worshipping or any such acts relating to it as it is in defiance of their faith in Jesus Christ.
As a fall out of this rejection, they have been repeatedly warned of the dire consequences of refusing to worship and serve at the shrine (Ogwa) of the Nneoma deity, chief of which would be an instant, unprecedented death of the couple. There has also been unending threats to their lives and this had forced them to relocate from their abode in Lagos to Ibadan, seeking to get a fresh start and live a quiet life as true Christians. Unfortunately, this was short-lived as their location in Ibadan was soon discovered and the physical threats resumed following which the couple have fled to an unknown destination for safety.
