Terrorists invade Zamfara community, kidnaps residents
A terrorist attack in Matusgi village, Talata Mafara Local Government Area, Zamfara State, resulted in the kidnapping of at least 10 residents.
Sources indicate that heavily armed terrorists launched a surprise assault on the community around 2 a.m. on Friday, firing indiscriminately.
Among those abducted was a patient undergoing medical treatment who was taken while still connected to an IV drip. The attack has left the community in shock and fear. Although local sources reported that around 30 people were kidnapped, the police have confirmed that 10 individuals were taken.
A community resident said “The terrorists did not kill anyone during the attack; they only fired shots to intimidate us. They abducted about 30 people, including a woman and a sick man. We still don’t know their whereabouts, and everyone is terrified.”
The reasons behind the kidnappings remain unclear, but authorities suspect that ransom demands might be a motive. State Police Command Spokesman Yezid Abubakar confirmed the attack to on Friday morning, noting that 10 people were kidnapped, differing from the 30 reported by locals. This discrepancy in numbers has raised questions as the investigation continues.
Abubakar stated, “The attack is confirmed. Bandits invaded the village early Friday morning around 2:30 a.m., kidnapping 10 people. The police are making significant efforts to rescue them unharmed.”
