Terrorism rampant in the North while Tinubu Govt. hunt down #endbadgovernance protesters
Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the former presidential candidate from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has sharply criticized Bola Tinubu’s administration for its handling of the ongoing violence in Northern Nigeria, particularly condemning the imposition of death sentences on peaceful protesters.
Atiku expressed outrage over the government’s apparent detachment from the severe violence in Yobe, which has resulted in numerous fatalities, and the widespread devastation in various villages across Katsina, Sokoto, and other areas in the North-West and North-Central regions. He contends that the administration seems preoccupied with trivial matters rather than addressing these critical issues.
In a statement posted on his X account on Thursday, Atiku highlighted that the unrest extends beyond the North, affecting the South as well, where Boko Haram’s activities and political discord further threaten national stability.
He criticized the Federal Government for its focus on suppressing dissent through harsh measures like death sentences for protesters instead of tackling the pressing security challenges. Atiku described the violence in Yobe as a clear indicator of the current security framework’s failure, calling for urgent and substantial reforms.
“My heart goes out to the victims of these horrific attacks. I urge the Tinubu administration to show greater dedication to protecting lives and property throughout the country,” he stated.
Earlier reports revealed that terrorists had attacked Mafa village in Yobe State’s Tarmuwa Local Government Area, resulting in multiple deaths. The terrorists were reported to have looted valuable goods and burned numerous homes. This incident occurred shortly after a similar attack in the Geidam Local Government Area of Yobe State, where three students were killed at Faudiya School.
