There has been tension in Bauchi Government House on Monday shortly after the State Governor, Bala Mohammed announced his self-isolation following his contact with the son of the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who is tested positive to Covid-19 virus.
The Governor, his family, two commissioners and other entourage numbering about 10 are currently undergoing self-isolation to prevent the spread of the pandemic Covid-19 virus. Following the development, fear has since griped entire cabinet over the outcome of the test being carried out on the Governor and his aides.
Mohammed’s Aide Mukhtar Gidado has announced in a press a statement on Monday that the development was sequel to the report from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) that the son of the former Vice President of Nigeria, Mohammed Atiku Abubakar was tested positive to the CoronaVirus upon his returned from an international trip through Lagos.
Gidado said: “It would be recalled that Governor Bala Mohammed who was also recently returned from an official trip in Lagos, met with Mohammed Atiku Abubakar in the Aero Contractors Aircraft where they shook hands and exchanged pleasantries.
“So far, the Governor did not exhibit any symptom of the disease but based on the recommendation of the NCDC, he will remain in isolation in order to avoid the risk of spread of the disease
“Currently, the blood sample of the Governor has been taken and is undergoing clinical test. For the record of the clinical testing, the Governor and his entourage will remain in isolation pending the outcome of the clinical result.
The Governor has cancelled all his appointments with immediate effect.
While speaking on the matter, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Aliyu Maigoro confirmed the development. He said there was no symptom of the virus on the Governor but the representatives of the NCDC have taken his blood sample.
“He’s a secondary contact, he has not travelled to any endemic area. He has suspended his international trips long ago.
“Secondly, we have not recorded any case of Coronavirus in the state so far. We are intensifying our sensitisation and other public health activities.”
