Teenager in court for allegedly assaulting police officers

A 19-year-old Uwanu Emmanuel, on Wednesday, appeared before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting a police officers.

Emmanuel, whose address was not given, is facing a two- count charge of assault.

The police prosecutor, Insp Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendant and others at large committed the offence at 8.30 a.m., in Ado-Ekiti.

Oriyomi alleged that the defendants assaulted one Insp Adepoju Adewunmi and injured him.

“The defendant and one other at large also assaulted one Sgt. Duduyegbe Olatunbosun, while performing his lawful duty,” he said.

According to him, the offences contravened Sections 186 and 187(a) of the Criminal Laws of EKiti State 2021.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Bankole Oluwasanmi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.

He adjourned the case till April 26 for hearing.
