Teenager arraigned over alleged theft of N475,000 in cables

On Wednesday, Julius Francis, a 19-year-old, was arraigned in a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing cables valued at N475,000.
The defendant, a resident of Barnawa in Kaduna, is facing a charge of theft.
The prosecutor, Insp. Chidi Leo, informed the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offence on September 21 in Sabon Tasha, Kaduna.
Leo alleged that the defendant stole 150 metres of 1.5mm cables worth N475,000, belonging to Williams Investment Ltd.
He stated that the defendant was apprehended by a security guard before he could take the cables and was promptly taken to the police station.
Leo stated that the offence violated the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Magistrate Mr. Ibrahim Emmanuel granted the defendant bail set at N100,000, requiring one surety for the same amount.
He stipulated that the surety must demonstrate a reliable source of income and provide proof of tax payment.
The case was adjourned until October 16 for a hearing.
