Teacher, 28, steals N1.09m from woman’s bank account

…Another defrauds her of N280,000.00

Police operatives attached to Amukoko Police Station of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested and arraigned a 28-year-old teacher before an Apapa Magistrate Court, for allegedly defrauding a woman of her N1, 095,000.00 (One million and ninety five thousand Naira), using her bank account details.

The accused person, Sanda Damilare Opeyemi, a teacher, who is facing a two-count  charge was said to have committed the offence alongside others at large, on December 17, 2020, at Round About, Amukoko.

The police said that Opeyemi, a male, did unlawfully conspire with others at large to commit fraud and felony to wit stealing ,thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 411 of the criminal law of Lagos State, 2015.

The prosecutor, Mr Asu Feddy, an assistant superintendent of police, said Opeyemi withdrew the cash money from one Blessing Cynthia Ukatu’s third generation bank account, without her consent.

On the second count charge, Feddy said the accused person and others at large did “fraudulently withdrew the sum of  N1,095,000.00 (One million and ninety five thousand Naira) only from one Blessing Cynthia Ukatu’s  bank account (name of bank withheld) – number 009374984 without her consent, thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 287(9)(c) of the criminal law of Lagos State, 2015.”

Meanwhile, Nigerian NewsDirect investigation also revealed that  one Afeez, now on the wanted list of the police allegedly stole N280,000.00 from the same bank account owned by Ukatu.

The accused person, Opeyemi pleaded not guilty to the two count charge against him. The presiding magistrate, Mrs. O.A. Adegite granted the accused person bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum, a letter of commendation from the school he teaches- either from the principal, head teacher or their vice.

Adegite added that the verification of the information must be done before his bail approval. The magistrate adjourned the case till March 3, 2021.
