An Ilorin based legal practitioner, Mr Abdullateef Abdullahi, has advised parents not to shy away from teaching their children sex education at a young age.
Abdullahi gave the advice in an interview with the Newsmen in Ilorin on Thursday.
According to him, early sex education can help save minors from the menace of sexual abuse and early pregnancy.
“Parents must not shy away from engaging their children, especially female child on early sex education. It will prepare them to identify with their body early in life.
“It will equip children with adequate information needed to guide against abuse. Sex education will also instill discipline and encourage positive sexual attitude.
“Most promising future of some children has been ruined due to careless nature of parents shying away from discussing sex education with their children.
“It is your responsibility as a parent to discuss sex with your girl and boy child at an early stage. Be free to discuss with them and save them from falling victims of rape and abuse,” he said.
He called on government at all levels to put in place stiffer law against sex offenders to help instill moral on the society.
