In a tragic incident in Sararai village, Jigawa State, a 40-year-old tea seller, Abdulrashibu Ya’u, has been accused of killing a 20-year-old man, Hassan Garba, following repeated allegations of theft.

The victim, who had reportedly been beaten multiple times by Ya’u for allegedly stealing bread, milk, noodles, and petrol, succumbed to his injuries.

The altercation, which culminated in Garba’s death, was triggered by Ya’u’s frustration over what he claimed were repeated thefts by Garba.

After Ya’u accused Garba of stealing his items, he reportedly took the law into his own hands by tying Garba with a rope and beating him with a stick.

A source close to the investigation stated, “Ya’u admitted to the crime during interrogation, explaining that Garba’s repeated thefts had driven him to act violently. Ya’u had previously informed Garba’s parents about the thefts, but no action was taken.”

Neighbors, who heard Garba’s cries for help, were unable to intervene until the police arrived.

The patrol team, responding to the report, arrested Ya’u and transported Garba to Rasheed Shekoni Teaching Hospital, where his death was confirmed.

The police, led by the Command’s Public Relations Officer DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, revealed that Ya’u will face legal proceedings. “Following a thorough investigation, Ya’u will be arraigned in court to face the full weight of the law,” Adam confirmed.
