Tax reform a positive development for Nigerians – CITN
The Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) has described the Federal Government’s tax reform as a promising development for the majority of Nigerians.
CITN President, Mr Samuel Agbeluyi, made this assertion while speaking to journalists on Friday in Jos.
Agbeluyi is in Jos for CITN’s first Council Meeting of 2025.
Agbeluyi explained that if the proposed tax bill is passed into law, it will introduce greater efficiency and organisation into Nigeria’s tax administration system.
“As an institute, we welcome the ongoing discussions surrounding the new tax bills. If these bills are enacted into law, they will improve the system significantly.
“This reform will enhance the nation’s revenue generation capacity.
“I am not referring to an increase in taxation for Nigerians, but rather to the improvements in tax administration and enforcement that this reform will bring.
“No document is perfect anywhere in the world, and if necessary, amendments can always be made to refine the system.
“I urge Nigerians to support this reform as it represents a positive step for the country,” he said.
Agbeluyi further stated that the two-day council meeting provided an opportunity for CITN members to deliberate on key issues affecting the country’s tax system.
He emphasised that such discussions are essential to ensuring that Nigeria’s tax policies align with best practices and contribute to national development.
