The Management of Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, Ogun State, has closed down the school following a violent clash allegedly between the students and the host community of Imaweje in the early hours of Sunday.
It was gathered that the clash between the students and the members of the host community led to the burning of a house belonging to the head of the community.
The town crier of the community was also reportedly said to have lost his house to the violent clash.
Though, the authority of the school when contacted said that it was still making efforts to know the immediate cause of the clash but our Correspondent gathered that the alleged killing of one of the students by the community was said to have been central to the cause of the crisis.
The discovery of the body of this student said to have been dumped in a morgue was said to have sparked off the violent clash.
The Registrar of the Institution, Dapo Oke, has however in a statement on Sunday announced the shutting down of the school.
The school advised parents and guardians to recall their wards living within the community with immediate effect.
“Following the recent clash between Students and members of the University Host Community in the early hours of today, particularly, the Imameje Community which led to the eruption of violence, the University Management hereby announces the closing down of the University.
“In the meantime, Parents and Guardians are hereby advised to recall their wards particularly those living in and around Iwameje back home immediately.
“Efforts are being made with law enforcement agents to restore peace and order in the community affected,” the statement read.
When contacted for reaction, the Police Public Relations Officer for Ogun State command, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi said that he was still trying to get in touch with Area Commander of Ijebu Ode for the details of the incident.
