The Lagos State task force apprehended six individuals suspected of participating in the illegal sale of petroleum products across various locations in the state.
The Director of Press and Public Affairs for the task force, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, emphasised in a statement that the unauthorised sale of fuel in gallons poses significant risks to the public.
He added that the suspects were apprehended while selling petrol at inflated prices to motorists in the Maryland, Charity, and Fadeyi areas.
Abdulraheem stressed that such practices further exacerbated the challenges faced by residents amidst the ongoing fuel scarcity.
He identified the suspects as Toibu Ishola, Yakubu Olayiwola, Adebayo Rasak, Maria Balogun, Motunrayo Dosunmu, and John Ogunfowokan.
He stated, “The Lagos State Task Force carried out a comprehensive operation from Fadeyi to Maryland and from Charity Bus Stop to Airport Road, where six suspects involved in the illegal sale and display of petroleum products were apprehended.
“These individuals were caught red-handed selling petrol to motorists at inflated rates, thereby worsening the already severe situation for many Lagos residents.
“The six suspects—Toibu Ishola, 44; Yakubu Olayiwola, 34; Adebayo Rasak, 29; Maria Balogun, 50; Motunrayo Dosunmu, 43; and John Ogunfowokan—will face charges in court. Additionally, the seized petroleum products will be forfeited to the state government through legal proceedings.”
Highlighting the agency’s chairman’s reaction to the arrests, Abdulraheem added that the task force will persist in cracking down on black market operators to ensure the safety of lives and property in the state.
He urged the public to report any suspicious activities related to the illegal sale of petroleum products to the agency.
“We are committed to curbing these illegal activities and ensuring public safety. The actions of these black market operators are not only harmful but also pose a serious threat to public safety, as improper handling and storage of petrol could result in a catastrophic fire disaster.”
“The agency also urges the public to report any suspicious activities related to the illegal storage and sale of petroleum products, warning that those involved will face the full force of the law.
“The Lagos State Task Force will persist in targeting these operators and any others engaged in activities that endanger the environment and threaten the safety and well-being of Lagosians,” Abdulraheem added.
