Taraba: ALGON fires back as colleague hits Gov Ishaku over insecurity

The Taraba state chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, ALGON, has refuted claims by its former member, Abershi Musa, who recently resigned his appointment as the caretaker chairman of Ussa Local Government Council.

The former council boss had blamed his decision on the “inhuman attitude of the state governor, Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku over the killings of my people in Ussa Local Government by suspected herdsmen”.

But the ALGON, in a press release on Friday, urged the people of the state and Nigerians at large to disregard “what the former CTC chairman of Ussa said as the reason behind his resignation.”

The release which was signed by the association’s chairman, Bala Bako, claimed that the state government had been working round the clock, alongside the security agencies to arrest the situation in Ussa.

He said the state government had been proactive in terms of security, and that the government had been releasing security votes to all council chairmen.

He wondered why the former CTC would say government has not been supporting him in the fight against insecurity.

While calling on all the CTC Chairmen to “see leadership as a responsibility when vested with such, not as a means of enrichment”, he added that the door of the state government was open on to them, especially whenever it is matter of security of the people.

Newsmen reports that the state government has not issued public statements condemning the ongoing killings and destruction of property in the local government in question.
