Talk to your children over indecent dressing, Obasanjo counsels parents
Bankole Taiwo, Abeokuta
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Saturday tasked parents to caution their children over indecent dressing as it might endanger their lives in the future.
Obasanjo, who appreciated parents efforts in sending their wards to schools to obtain quality education, said that their education was not completed until they were taught to dress decently
He stated this at the Graduation Ceremony/Award Presentation to 96 graduands of Lyceum Foundation Group of Schools held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The theme of the school’s 10th year anniversary and graduation ceremony for the year 2022 is “Portrait of an Outstanding School”.
The ex-president, who was represented by his wife, Mrs Bola Obasanjo, expressed concern over the way some girls dress and expose their cleavages and boys sag their jeans revealing their boxers without the fear of their parents.
He therefore advised parents to always check the way their wards dress whenever they want to go out of the house so as not to be attracted to bad gangs that might ruin their future.
The two term civilian president lauded the management of the school and the founders, Mr Yinka and Mrs Maureen Ola- Williams, for making sure the children dressed in their uniform decently during their performances.
He said” I learnt something again during the presentation you could see the all the children especially those ones dancing raising their legs up, they sewed the uniform material well, you can see the decency in what they are wearing protecting the private parts, both men and women please I want us to learn from this it looks so minute that all these ones doesn’t it matters a lot.”
“When our children are dressing in the house when they wear something showing their body, call them back or wear something showing their cleavages, please don’t let them go out or when see our boys sagging please call them back. We have learnt a lot from Lyceum school from their various presentation, they did a lot, God will continue to help us.”
“At times, the way some young girls dress put them into trouble attracting unnecessary things to them and you see them with some wayward ideas… by the special grace of God that one won’t be the portion of our children because you can see what they are doing today which is also showing that Nigeria will be better.” he added.
The Commissioner for Education in Ogun State, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, urged the graduands to prepare themselves well for the next phase of learning and have a resilient spirit for hardworking.
Arigbabu, who was represented by the Abeokuta South Local Government Zonal Education Officer, Mr Temitope Lasile, also charged the school management to continue to set standard for their student and sustain the ‘portrait of an outstanding school’ in the state.
He said “I am convinced that you have been well prepared for the next phase of your learning here. Hence, as you leave this school for a higher. school or college, it will not be business as usual. You will now take responsibility for your life.”
“Life is a mixture of the good, bad and ugly, notwithstanding, you must have a resilient spirit to weather the storms of life. Stay connected to your creator at the time of your youth. Remember, nothing is achievable without hard work and divine benevolence.” he added.
Head of School, Mrs Maureen, while thanking the parents for picking Lyceum school for their children, said that the school would not relent in giving its best for the pupils and students.
