Taiwanese military personnels convicted for disclosing secrets to China

On Thursday, eight retired and active Taiwanese military members were sentenced to prison terms of up to 13 years for leaking classified information to China. The Taiwan High Court imposed sentences ranging from 1.5 to 13 years for offenses including breaches of the National Security Law, delivering classified information, and accepting bribes.

The convicted individuals have the right to appeal. The case centers on the Taiwanese Army’s Aviation and Special Forces Command, Taiwan’s elite special operations unit.

Prosecutors revealed that some defendants collaborated with China to create a video titled “I Will Surrender to the People’s Liberation Army,” in which they pledged allegiance to Beijing in exchange for payment.

In total, 10 people were involved in the case. Alongside the eight convicted, one person was acquitted, and another, who did not appear for trial, is now wanted for arrest.
