Tailor arraigned for allegedly assaulting housewife

A 32 year-old tailor, Segun Shedrack was on Thursday   arraigned before an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State for allegedly beating up a house wife.

The defendant, whose address was not given, is facing a two-count charge bordering on breach of peace and assault.

The Police Prosecutor, ASP Zedekiah Orogbemi, told the court that the defendant on Aug. 19, around 08:00 a.m. at Celestial Church of Christ Street, Okitipupa in Okitipupa Magisterial District committed felony

Orogbemi said the defendant assaulted one Foluso Akinlaja over an undisclosed mild argument and misunderstanding between them.

The prosecutor said that the defendant inflicted injuries on the complainant with stick and fist blow which caused bodily harm to her.

He also said that the defendant destroyed properties in her shop, including beverages and provisions of the complainant valued N50,000.

The prosecutor added that the offences were contrary and punishable under sections 351 and 355 of the Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol. 1, Law of Ondo State, 2006.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against him.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Cletus Ojuola, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 and one surety in like sum.

Ojuola added that the surety must be residing within the court jurisdiction and must show evidence of two years tax payment made to the state government.

He, however, adjourned the case until Oct. 18 for further hearing.
