Tackle insecurity, fuel crisis, food shortages, others in 2025 — PDP urges Tinubu
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take immediate action on the pressing issues of insecurity, the fuel crisis, and the growing food shortages affecting Nigeria as the country enters 2025.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, criticised the Tinubu administration for prioritising rhetoric over substantial action over the past 18 months. He accused the president of offering empty promises and unsubstantiated claims, while failing to implement concrete measures to address the critical issues impacting millions of Nigerians.
“The PDP congratulates Nigerians on the arrival of 2025 but urges President Tinubu not to taint the new year with another address filled with empty rhetoric and unfulfilled promises,” Ologunagba said.
“The president must prioritise real solutions to the soaring fuel prices, widespread hunger, and the insecurity that has left Nigerians living in constant fear.”
The opposition party reiterated the need for effective government intervention to stabilise the country’s economy, curb insecurity, and alleviate the suffering of citizens.
Ologunagba also criticised the lack of progress in tackling unemployment and the rising cost of living, which have severely affected Nigerians’ daily lives.
“The past 18 months have been among the most difficult for Nigerians since the Civil War. While ordinary Nigerians suffer, government officials continue to flaunt their lavish lifestyles, showing a disturbing disregard for the pain of millions,” he added.
The PDP also expressed concerns about the mismanagement of public funds, particularly in light of the billions of Naira reportedly generated by the removal of the fuel subsidy. The party called on President Tinubu to provide a transparent account of the funds collected and address the alleged corruption and wasteful spending within his administration.
“The president must also address the ongoing corruption under his watch and hold accountable those responsible for siphoning public funds meant for the welfare of the people,” Ologunagba stated.
Additionally, the PDP demanded that the government revisit the 2020 EndSARS killings and address the alleged state-backed violence, which it claims has been largely ignored.
The PDP urged Nigerians to remain hopeful and law-abiding, while continuing to demand greater transparency, accountability, and effective governance.
“We remain committed to defending Nigeria’s democracy, upholding the Rule of Law, and pushing for the government to deliver on its promises for a better future,” Ologunagba concluded.
