S’West Govs unite, appoint Sanwo-Olu as new Chairman

…Adopt regional anthem, back State Police, minimum wage reform

In a show of unity and solidarity, the South-West Governors’ Forum held a meeting on Monday, June 10, 2024, at the Governor’s Office, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos State, where they adopted Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State as their new Chairman.

The Forum also paid tribute to their late Chairman, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi O. Akeredolu, and congratulated the new Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, on his election victory.

This was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, the Governors adopted “Ise wa fun ile wa” as the South-West Anthem and commended the House of Representatives and South-West Caucus for their efforts in passing the South-West Development Commission Bill

According to Governor Sanwo-Olu, the South West Governors Forum also adopted “Ise Wa Fun Ile Wa” as its anthem, with an assurance that the new minimum wage to be announced by the Federal government will reflect true federalism.

The Governors also reaffirmed their support for State Police, emphasising the need for enhanced security and true federalism.

They urged President Bola Tinubu to expedite the rehabilitation of federal roads across the country, highlighting the importance of infrastructure development.

The Forum commended the House of Representatives for passing the South-West Development Commission bill, aimed at boosting economic growth and food security among member States.

They advocated for the speedy passage of the legislation to further strengthen regional cooperation.

In attendance were Governors Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo), Prince Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Ademola Adeleke (Osun), and Abiodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), demonstrating their unity and commitment to regional progress.
