The suspended Chairman of Alimosho Local Government Council, Jelili Sulaiman, has urged the Lagos State Government to refrain from implementing his suspension by the State Assembly, citing a pending legal case.
In a statement on Thursday released by his legal representatives, Sulaiman asserted that the matter is subjudice and should not be acted upon.
Sulaiman contends that a case regarding his suspension is currently before the Federal High Court in Abuja.
He called on the Lagos State Government to adhere to due process and respect the judiciary, emphasising the importance of the rule of law.
“We write to draw the attention of the general public to the letter from Mrs. Kikelomo Bolarinwa, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs, and Rural Development,” Sulaiman stated.
He referred to the October 8, 2024, letter instructing Vice Chairman Akinpelu Johnson to assume office as Acting Chairman following what he described as an unconstitutional resolution by the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Sulaiman’s lawyers reminded the Permanent Secretary that any action regarding his suspension is subjudice and would violate the ongoing judicial process.
“Therefore, any further action regarding the implementation of this unconstitutional resolution would be an infringement on the rule of law,” they added.
