Suspected vandals attack PDP, Atiku campaign offices in Gombe

Some suspected vandals, on Tuesday, allegedly attacked the Gombe State Secretariat of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Campaign Office of the party’s former Presidential Candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, in the state.

Briefing journalists in Gombe, the National Coordinator, North-East Business Communities, Atiku for President 2023, Dr Aliyu Adamu, described the incident as unfortunate.

Adamu also described Abubakar as a peace-loving leader and as such did not deserve such treatment from anyone.

He said that a security man in the office called around 2a.m. to inform him that some hoodlums invaded the office and began to vandalise the property.

“They destroyed our banners, flags and the windows and carted away all the air conditioners,” he said.

According to him, the group is not suspecting anyone but we call on the state government and security agencies to ensure that those involved are brought to book.

Adamu said the Commissioner of Police in the state, Ishola Babaita, had been informed.

The hoodlums also torched a section of the PDP secretariat.

In a reaction, the state PDP Chairman, Abnon Kwashebe, alleged that the attack was politically motivated.

Kwashebe decried political violence in the state and urged the party members to remain calm.

He said that the police commissioner had visited the secretariat and assured them that the matter would be thoroughly investigated.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Adamu Ngorjin, who confirmed the incident to journalists, said that investigation into the two incidents had commenced.
