Suspected robber set ablaze on Valentine’s Day

A suspected robber has met his waterloo as an angry mob set him ablaze near Second Rainbow bus stop, along Mile Two–Oshodi expressway, Lagos, on Valentine’s Day.

The suspect was alleged to be one of the criminals disturbing the area and its environs.

A man who identified himself simply as Chukwudi who resides in the area disclosed that he heard people screaming: “Ole! Ole!! (Meaning: Thief! Thief!!) very early this morning. I don’t know what the robber stole or about to steal but people apprehended him and set him ablaze on the highway. The residents had earlier vowed to set any robber apprehended ablaze. So they burnt him along the expressway.”

Meanwhile, many people who were walking along the road and motorists and passengers who saw the remains of the suspected robber reacted with mixed feelings. While some were not happy the way the person was given jungle justice, others were happy.

One of them John Eze said, “Serves him right! That’s the best way to reduce robbers in the society since the police are not functioning very well like before the #EndSARS.”

Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi said, “We are not aware of such incident  at Orile Division. However, the DPO of the area has been asked to get information on that,” Adejobi said.
