A 43-year-old man, Kabir Otolorin, who failed to produce a suspect he stood for as surety, on Friday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
Otolorin, whose residential address was unknown, is facing a three-count bordering on conspiracy and perversion of justice.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
According to the Police Prosecutor, Sgt. kenrich Nomayo, the defendant allegedly perverted the course of Justice by refusing to provide one Sheik Kamaldeen, whom he stood for as a surety to the police.
Nomayo told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Aug. 7, 2019 at 12.00 p. m. in Meiran Police Station, Meiran, a Lagos suburb.
The prosecutor said the said Sheik obtained five cows and rams worth N1. 598m from one Sheu Nuhu but refused to pay back the money as agreed upon.
“The defendant failed to honour the police invitation or appeared as promised in the bail bond to produce one Sheik Kamaldeen whom he took on bail from the police station but failed to produce him,” the prosecutor submitted.
The Magistrate, Mrs O. O. Fajana granted the defendant N500, 000 bail with two sureties in like sum.
Fajana ordered the sureties must be gainfully employed and have evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The alleged offences violate Sections 97,123 and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.
The Magistrate adjourned the case until Feb. Feb. 11 for hearing.
