Surety bags 5 months’ imprisonment for impersonation, forgery

Justice Darius Khobo of the Kaduna High Court on Wednesday sentenced one Gabriel Victor to five months’ imprisonment for forging a document to stand as surety for a suspect.

Victor was arraigned by the Kaduna Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a two-count charge of impersonation and forgery.

Khobo sentenced Victor following his guilty plea but gave him an option of N150,000 fine.

Earlier, EFCC counsel, Mr E. K. Garba, told the court that the defendant forged a Kaduna State Certificate of Occupancy to secure bail for his brother under investigation by the EFCC.

Garba said the defendant also falsely presented himself as the Principal Officer of General Hospital, Makarfi, to the commission.

He said that the offence contravened Sections 142(2) and 147 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
