Subsidy removal reversal: Long queues resurface in Abuja, as NNPC assures of sufficient fuel

Fuel queues have sharply returned to filling stations across Abuja on Wednesday cities despite the federal government’s decision to suspend and shelve the proposed subsidy removal which was initially slated to commence in June 2021

According to a report file by our correspondent, queues began to emerge in the state capital as earlier as Monday, creeping into yesterday.

Besides this, fuel prices in some parts of the city were sold with N3 difference; some of the filling stations in Jabi, Wuse and Lugbe areas of the city sold the product at prices ranging from N162 to N165.

As a result, many black marketers as at the time of filling this report have trooped into the city hawking the product in jerry cans to desperate motorists and other consumers along Lugbe and Kubuwa axis.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has asked Nigerians not to panic amid the ongoing scarcity of fuel in Abuja

In a statement on Wednesday night, the Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, Garba Deen Muhammad, said it has sufficient petrol stock to meet the needs of Nigerians.

NNPC in a statement said, “Please do not panic, NNPC Ltd wishes to assure the public that the Company has sufficient PMS stock to meet the needs of Nigerians.

“The public is therefore advised not to engage in panic buying of petrol and to ignore all rumors that may suggest otherwise.

“In line with the existing laws of the land, NNPC Ltd is deeply committed to ensuring energy security for the country,” it said.
