Students should be encouraged to stay in Lagos School – Commissioner

The Lagos State Ministry of Education on Friday charged school administrators and proprietors to their students from roaming the streets.

The state’s Commissioner for Education, Mrs Folashade Adefisayo, gave the charge when paid unscheduled visits to some schools across the state after the resumption.

Adefisoye urged school proprietors to activate their boarding facilities to encourage students to stay in school.

In her assessment of the COVID preventions/protocols, the commissioner said the schools were at the top of their jobs in preventing the spread of the disease.

She expressed displeasure over a situation where students are seen roaming the streets and gradually losing interest in learning.

She said that this could be harmful to their growth and that their wellbeing must be of utmost importance.

“The lockdown had made a lot of vulnerable children go through tough times.

“Some had to take to street hawking, enrol as mechanics apprentice, bus conductors and many others.

“With the lockdown off, all avenues to get the children back to school and make them love learning must be encouraged,’’ she said.
