Stop prosecuting Kanu, Igboho — Ortom tells FG

…Says they are freedom fighters

By Titus Atondu, Makurdi

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has called on the Federal Government to stop persecuting Nnamdi Kanu and Sunday Igboho.

Ortom also explained that because the duo are freedom fighters, the call has become necessary to allow them have their peace.

The Governor made the call on Monday during the expanded stakeholders meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Makurdi.

He further explained that the duo were legitimately fighting for the freedom of their people and there was no basis persecution.

He expressed worry as to why the Fulani herdsmen that were terrorising Nigerians were not apprehended and persecuted why stressing they launch attacks on communities and go scout free.

Ortom lamented that the herdsmen had shattered both the economic and social lives of the people, emphasising that everything in the country was at its lowest ebb as a result of the unwarranted attacks on the people.

He called on the international community to appoint a Special Envoy to do a special report on the incessant attacks of communities in Nigeria by Fulani herdsmen.

He stressed that his trip to United Kingdom and the United States of America was worthwhile, disclosing that he was able to reveal to them the truth about the herdsmen activities.

He said that he was able to make them know that the herdsmen wanted to displace communities and occupy their land and not the wrong narrative that it was because of climate or environmental changes.

He encouraged members of the PDP to work assidiously to ensure that the party achieves overwhelming success during the 2023 general elections.

Earlier, the state PDP Chairman, Mr John Ngbede, appreciated members of the party for their support which they gave him since 2016 to date.

Ngbede further said that with their support he was chosen as the running mate to the gubernatorial candidate of the party, Mr Titus Uba.

He disclosed that he would be presiding as the state chairman for the last time and after the meeting he would cease to be the state chairman of the party because he was given a higher responsibility.

He pledged to work relentlessly to ensure that the party win overwhelmingly during the 2023 general elections.
