…Olabisi cautions, Adekunle, Osun State PDP caretaker chairman
The Office of the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress(APC) has cautioned the Caretaker Transition Committee Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), one Dr Akindele Adekunle, to desist from activities capable of creating needless tension in the state by usurping the statutory role of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) by illegally declaring victory for the PDP candidate in the governorship election held in the state yesterday.
It was strange that the Osun State PDP caretaker transition committee chairman who is supposed to be knowledgeable enough if only for the scholarly prefix of his name that it’s not within the purvey of his office to declare any election result as he flagrantly did in the press statement he issued yesterday evening under the headline ‘Osun Governorship Elections: PDP Claims Victory’.
According to a statement issued by Kola Olabisi, the Media Adviser to the Osun State APC chairman, Prince Gboyega Famodun, it was absolutely wrong for Dr Adekunle to have frivolously engaged in such an illegality of appointing himself the the state INEC Returning Officer whereby he(Akindele) declared the candidate of his party, Senator Ademola Adeleke, the winner of the election even when the election was still ongoing.
Olabisi stated that the issuance of such an illegal declaration by someone who is not statutorily competent to so do could be categorized as a mere ploy to needlessly heat up the polity, a situation which is antithetical to the subsisting peace being enjoyed by all and sundry in the state.
The spokesman of the APC who called the attention of the INEC and police authorities to the pungent anomaly and political heresy committed by the purveyor of the odious message hinted that adequate penalties should be visited on him, his governorship candidate and the state faction of the PDP.
He explained that it could only be morbid desperation that could have driven the CTC chairman to such a level of climbing a tree beyond where it is permissible to function optimally.
Olabisi stated that the vision and mission of Dr Adekunle which is to deliberately disturb the proverbial settled water of Osun State has hit the rocks as such a patently infamous and primitive approach to politics and politicking can neither sit nor fly.
According to the spokesman of the state APC chairman, “when has it become a norm for a member of a political party to officially and declare a candidate of his party the winner in any contest?
“Adekunle should be in the know of the fact that the only authorised body saddled with the responsibility to announce that state governorship election is the INEC while any other pronouncement outside this arrangement shall permanently remain in the realm of a mere speculation.
“It is the responsibility of any noble person to always play the game according to the rules in order to achieve a desired goal”, Olabisi stated.
