The Sokoto State House of Assembly has charged communities to protect projects executed by government in their localities.
House committee for Local government Affairs of the Assembly made the call on Friday when it inspected projects at Rabah local government area of the state.
The Committee, led by its Chairman, Alhaji Habibu Modachi (PDP-Isa), was on an oversight visit to various projects executed by the Ministry for Local government and Community Development across the 23 LGAs of the state.
Modachi said that the State government had done a lot in ensuring the best and standard structures across the 23 LGAs of the state.
“We have seen the work done by the present administration across the LGAs and we are confident that a lot will be achieved.
“These are projects that have direct impact on the lives of the people and of higher benefit to the socio-economic development of the society.
“However, as the immediate beneficiaries of the gesture, we need to ensure proper protection to encourage and support government’s desire for future benefits.
“Moreover, I want to commend those contractors who have become friends of government for their dedication to the best and standard work done, while urging others to also follow suit,” he said.
The Assemblyman commended Gov. Aminu Tambuwal for his commitment to executing projects that are of direct benefit to the entire people of the state.
Responding, the Chairman Rabah LGA, Alhaji Abubakar Bala, thanked the legislators on the oversight, saying such initiative had forced contractors to immediately move to the sites allocated to them.
Bala assured of the council’s commitment to ensuring proper monitoring and maintenance of the vast projects executed in the area.
It was reported that the Committee had also inspected projects of Semi-Urban water scheme, roads and schools at Rabah, Wurno, Yabo, Shagari, Sokoto South and Sokoto North LGAs respectively.
