Sokoto Assembly adopts oversight report on schools furniture

The Sokoto State House of Assembly has adopted the report of its committee on Basic and Secondary Education on its oversight visits to schools in the 23 Local Government Areas of the state.

The Committee Chairman, Buhari Haliru (PDP-Sokoto North I), who presented the report at Thursday’s plenary sitting of the Assembly, said the committee inspected all projects whose contracts were awarded for Primary and Junior Secondary schools.

He said committee observed a lot of successes and challenges faced by the contractors. Some of them, he noted, did great jobs while others failed to execute their projects to specifications in the Bills of Quantity.

“The State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) should draw the attention of any contractor who deliberately failed to mobilise to site to do so with immediate effect.

“SUBEB should ensure that all contracts awarded be fully executed in accordance to specifications in the Bill of Quantity.

“SUBEB should ensure equitable distribution of procured school furniture while District Heads and Village Heads should be carried along in monitoring of projects in their respective localities,’’ he said.

Also on Thursday, the Assembly adopted a motion moved by Alhaji Aminu Bodai (APC- Dange-Shuni), calling on the state government to construct a 20-km road linking Dange-Shuni to Bodinga LGA.
