SmartCash Payment Service Bank, a subsidiary of Airtel Nigeria, has announced a new partnership with Touch and Pay, the company behind the Cowry Card, a widely used automated payment solution.
This collaboration aims to enhance the convenience of public transportation payments by allowing SmartCash customers to top up their Cowry cards directly through the SmartCash mobile app.
The new service, launched by SmartCash PSB, is part of a broader effort to align with the Central Bank of Nigeria’s cashless policy, promoting cashless transactions across various sectors.
The company emphasised that the feature would significantly benefit commuters by providing a more efficient and accessible way to manage their transportation expenses.
The CEO of SmartCash PSB, Ayotunde Kuponiyi, highlighted the company’s dedication to advancing digital payment solutions.
He noted, “At SmartCash PSB, we firmly believe in enhancing convenience and accessibility for everyone, regardless of where they live. By integrating Cowry card top-ups in our mobile app and USSD channel.
“We aim to advance commuter convenience, aligning with our mission to empower customers with seamless and efficient payment services. This initiative also supports Nigeria’s cashless vision.”
The seamless integration of Cowry Card top-ups via the SmartCash app and USSD code *939# is now available to all SmartCash customers.
This development underscores SmartCash’s commitment to providing efficient and user-friendly payment systems, contributing to the nation’s push for a more digitised economy.
