Six people killed and other injured in a road accident in Ibadan

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Oyo State Command has disclosed that six people died as a result of a road accident that occurred in Ibadan on Monday.

FRSC Sector Commander in the state, Rosemary Alo, made this declaration while addressing journalists at a press conference held in Ibadan on Tuesday.

The Newsmen gathered that the accident claimed some lives on Monday in Ibadan.

Alo, while speaking, said that six people died while another six sustained various degrees of injuries as a result of the incident.

She maintained that the bodies of the six dead victims have been deposited at the University College Hospital (UCH) mortuary.

She also disclosed that the accident involved four vehicles, and a total of nineteen people were involved in the accident.

Alo, while speaking further, condoled with the families of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

“The crash took place at Amuloko along Ibadan-Akanran-Ijebu-Igbo Road at about 0730hrs on Monday, 14th October 2024. Four vehicles were involved in the crash:

“Two TVS Bajaj tricycles, which loaded from Amuloko and were heading towards Akanran; a Man Diesel Pepsi Cola truck coming from Alakia to Odeleye; and a DAF truck loaded with tiles that was heading to Irarodo from Shaki.

“A total of 19 persons were involved in the crash: Seven people in the first tricycle, including three school children and their mother; five people in the second tricycle; four people in the DAF truck; and three people in the Man Diesel truck.

“Following the crash, a total of six persons were killed, including two people (a school child and the mother) in the first tricycle, and four people in the second tricycle. Six other persons from the two tricycles sustained various degrees of injuries and were taken to Amuloko City Hospital for medical treatment, while the bodies of the six dead victims were deposited at the UCH mortuary.

“The crash took place when the DAF truck reportedly suffered brake failure while descending a hill at Amuloko and then crushed the two tricycles, which were traveling ahead of it, against the Man Diesel truck.

“The drivers and the other occupants of the two trucks escaped unharmed. The two drivers absconded from the crash scene and have remained at large as of the time of this report.

“This press conference is to address the incident and provide further details on the investigation and subsequent actions, which include, but are not limited to, hospital follow-ups by the Federal Road Safety Corps.

“The Command expresses its deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and wishes the injured a speedy recovery. Since road traffic crashes are unexpected incidents, today’s press conference has become a reality due to the persistence of road traffic crashes within Oyo State.”
