Niger State Governor, Hon Muhammad Umar Bago has warned the newly sworn in Commissioners and Special Assistants to steer clear of corruption, complacency and docility.
He threatened that anyone caught in the web of corruption will definitely be shown the way out of his administration.
Bago, who gave the warning at the swearing in ceremony of his aides in Minna, said the political appointees should not use the privilege of their appointment as an opportunity for self-enrichment.
He said, “let me sound very clearly that there will be no room for complacency, docility and very importantly, corruption.
“You cannot see the privilege of your appointment as an opportunity for self-enrichment. If you allow yourself to be caught in the twisted web of corruption, you will definitely be shown the way out”.
He also commended the Speaker and members of the Niger State House of Assembly for the smooth screening and confirmation of nominees sent to them, adding that this singular act had attested to their determination to build and maintain a harmonious relationship among the various arms of government for the purpose of enshrining good governance in the State.
The governor told appointees, “I need to reiterate that your appointments are strictly based on merits, competence and proven record of hard work and integrity.
“Therefore, I expect you to bring these hallmarks of excellence and commitment to bear on this new assignment”.
The Governor then stated that his administration will be open to constructive criticisms and value additions from all stakeholders in the governance process.
Earlier, the Secretary to the Niger State Government, SSG Alh. Abubakar Usman in his welcome address stated that the process of their nomination, confirmation and the administration of the oath of office and that of allegiance had been a thorough one.
He then pledged the commitment of all political appointments to be loyal, dedicated and above all trust worthy in the discharge of their duties.
